Open letter to my Favorite pair of jeans

I regret to say that I must retire you favorite pair of jeans. It has been a good ride, ten plus years. No one can doubt it has been great.

Remember when we first met? You were my good jeans, a little stiff, but after a couple of washings you softened up to me. That is when I realized you were different than all the other jeans out there. You had that something extra. You gave me more than protection from the elements, you made me look good. More importantly, you made me feel like I looked good. That a rare gift from an inanimate object.

As time passed, you were no longer the ‘good’ jeans, and became ‘everyday’ jeans as you became more worn and faded. But I never painted in you, for a time. That day came as well, you became ‘work’ jeans to paint and build in, and the inevitable paint splotches and rips began to appear. When your knee blew out I added a patch, but I knew the end was coming. And here it is.

I must bid you adieu dear jeans, I can only hope I made you as happy as you made me.
