Proud to have gone to the middle school named after Dr Percy Julian. #Repost @oakparkil with @repostapp ??? A wide range of notable people have called Oak Park home, including Percy Julian, a research chemist who pioneered the synthesis of medicinal drug compounds from soybeans. His work ethic, creativity and entrepreneurship resulted in more than 130 patents, including the development of many useful compounds for treating arthritis, glaucoma and allergies. When he moved to mostly white Oak Park in 1950, his house was firebombed twice. Although no one was injured, many in the community rallied around him and he became a focal point for civil rights in the Village.
