McKelvey watched Star Wars for the first time over the weekend, now she wants to be Princess Leia next halloween. The geek in me is grinning. This halloween she is going to be Princess Buttercup from The Princess Bride) Arden is going to be bacon. Because, as she said, ” I love bacon so much I could kiss it”. Don’t worry, pictures will come soon.
Everyone has things they are afraid of, and they change as you get older. McKelvey currently is worried that there is a ghost in the closet. It is only after we read this silly book (that I don’t think is scary at all) about some who loves pie and comes out of the ground when he smells a pie baking and then he wants to try a bite. She was never worried about the closet until that book.
On the other hand,I have fears now that I never had before.
McKelvey is in 2nd grade now. So she has fire drills and tornado drills at school. After the tornado drills(and watching the Wizard of Oz) she was worried about tornadoes. Now it was easy to reassure her that there aren’t going to be any tornadoes that will take her house or school away. But she has a drill that we didn’t have when we were in elementary school, crisis drills.
When McKelvey has a crisis drill, the teacher covers up the little window. Then all the students have to crouch in the corner of the room that can’t be seen by the window. Have you guessed what the crisis drill prepares for?
I am so glad they are preparing for every eventuality. I never thought about it before, and now that I do it freaks me out a little. Then McKelvey asked me one day what the crisis drill is for. So I said, “what does Ms. Suter say?” then McKelvey got distracted by something and we never got back to the topic of crisis drills.
But now I have something else to worry about during the school day.
Well a lot has happened the last couple of weeks. and now the pictures are up to prove it. They are here by the way. We have a trip to New york city, in which the girls saw their first Broadway show and afterwards walked out on Times Square. They got to visit some of Ann’s friends and we all went to the American Girls store as well.
This past weekend we wetn to a Fall Harvest festival. They did a big puppet show (no really they were big puppets). Most notably McKelvey finally wore pants.
I Have posted the last of the summer fun pictures. I guess I could be wrong since there is more to the summer but anyway. The pictures are here. These are images I got from some friends over the course summer, so they will cover 4th of july to the beginning of August. I thought there were some really cute ones here. Enjoy.
So Liam has really started to walk. While he took his first steps in June, he really began walking by himself towards the end of July. Now he is really getting around. He has always been more active than the girls were. Always getting into the cabinets etc. Now that he is walking around everywhere, I can’t even set him down and run to throw something in the garbage. He is quick and also annoyingly opinionated. You start to pull him in one direction and he just walks the other way. And he will keep walking in that direction no matter what. And when we are outside he would be a madman. Wanting to climb everything, see new things, and above all throwing things( like balls or rocks) and chase them.
So I find myself chasing after him constantly. I think I will be getting my exercise in. And it looks like it will be going on for a long time.
I have posted some new pictures from the past couple of weeks. In June we went on our annual trip to Natural bridge, during Rockbridge resident week(when we get a discounted price). We went up to Harrisonburg for their old timey ‘Courthouse days’. Fun old games and stuff. We went up to Ann’s parents for a couple of days, and then to ETC. Where I am spending all my time on running a theatre program for high school students. And there is a lot of drama, which should be expected for teenagers that do theatre and all live in the same house for 5 weeks.
There is some good pix of Fourth of July here.

Well, I am currently in PA in a little town that gets no cell reception and the internet only got hooked up in the 1st. I am the Artistic Director of a summer theatre school for high school students called ETC. IN addition to running the day to day I design the sets, the posters and am writing a bit for our children’s show. The work days begin at 8am and run until midnight every day. I am really enjoying it, but need more time to break away during the work day to spend time with my family.
More later when I get a chance.
The school year is over. It has been very busy, in addition to the productions I have had a lot of meetings and committee work to do. And things will only get busier once next year starts since I will be the new Head of the Department. It is something I am looking forward to. I know it will be very time consuming but the challenge will be good.
In other news, Arden and McKelvey had their dance recital last weekend. From a totally unbiased perspective, it was the most precious thing ever! They performed beautifully, and McKelvey even had a solo. Well she had a brief moment where she was the only one onstage. But I thought she owned it. It was so graceful. I have pictures up. I have some cute pix of the kids as well.
